Chin Advancement Surgery Review
Why WHY Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery?
Originally, I didn't have a significantly short chin, but I experienced frequent snoring due to my short chin. Therefore, I searched for different options and discovered that two-jaw surgery could move the chin forward and improve the airway's breathing. I consulted several hospitals specializing in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including WHY Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
After consultation, I learned that two-jaw surgery could protrude the chin forward, but it would require the upper and lower jaw to move forward together, which would enhance the function but compromise on the aesthetics of the mouth's protrusion. Therefore, I asked if there were other options available and was recommended a surgery that would pull the genioglossus muscle on the chin side to secure the airway while advancing the chin's tip.
Ultimately, I decided not to go with the Double Jaw surgery as it was not very cost-effective, and instead, I made an appointment for the Chin Advancement Surgery, including translational muscle advancement, and underwent the surgery. Additionally, I had two upper wisdom teeth removed under anesthesia.

The Surgery Day
I believe the surgery lasted approximately 2 hours, and the most challenging part was the scent of the anesthesia gas. I recall having difficulty breathing since there was still some gas remaining in my body. Waking up after the procedure was also tough since I had to force myself to do so. Surprisingly, I couldn't feel the surgical site, so it didn't bother me much. I was discharged from the hospital around an hour and a half to two hours after the surgery. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to go home due to my weakness, but somehow I managed to take the subway and intercity bus back home!
1st day after surgery
The swelling following the surgery wasn't as severe as I had anticipated. When I inquired, Dr. LEE informed me that the swelling would gradually increase until the fourth day. I was pleased to learn that my face wasn't excessively swollen at the time. However, this may have contributed to the gradual bleeding that occurred for a day or two before stopping.
2nd day after surgery
Due to the swelling in my neck, I had difficulty sleeping well at night and found myself awake until the early hours, either watching dramas or browsing YouTube. Perhaps as a result, I experienced a headache, and the pain was particularly intense in the tonsils and gums where my wisdom teeth were extracted.
3rd day after surgery
On the 3rd day, my jaw was the most swollen, but I didn't experience much pain. Currently, I am beginning to observe minor yellow bruises on my jaw.
4th day after surgery
The swelling has subsided somewhat, and my face feels less tight even when I am wearing a facial garment. The bruising on my jaw is slowly increasing in size. I am making it a point to walk for 30 minutes to an hour each day, and I am following all the necessary precautions to ensure a prompt recovery.
5th day after surgery
It appears that my mouth can open wider now, likely because the swelling has subsided considerably. Previously, I could only fit a baby toothbrush, but now an adult toothbrush fits comfortably. While I am able to eat soft foods, I am being cautious and sticking to meals that are easy to swallow.

Although it has only been five days, I am satisfied with the visible change in my jaw's shape since the tip has moved forward.
I also have a feeling of tightness in my mouth, and I am hopeful that the remaining swelling will go down soon.
2nd week after Chin Advancement Surgery
Today marks precisely two weeks since the surgery. During my second-week hospital visit, the stitches were removed, and I received care for the swelling, along with a brief consultation with Dr. LEE.
It's safe to say that the stitch removal process is less painful than the surgery itself. Perhaps due to the tip of my chin having moved forward, the level of swelling feels similar to that of one week post-surgery, indicating a speedy recovery. Although my strength has returned to normal, I am refraining from engaging in strenuous exercise.

4th week after Chin Advancement Surgery
Time has flown by, and it has already been four weeks, or a month, since my surgery.
It's regrettable that I still don't have the same sensation on the side of my jaw, and I am unable to exercise as much as I did before. However, I am thrilled that I can eat anything except for very hard foods that require significant effort from my jaw. Initially, after the surgery, I experienced a lot of pain, and I struggled to eat, thinking that enduring the discomfort was a necessary aspect of the surgery. Nevertheless, now that I can see how lovely I look, I tend to forget about the difficulties I faced.

4th month after Chin Advancement Surgery
When I looked at my later photos, I could undoubtedly observe that the slight change in the position of my chin made a significant difference. My once protruding mouth appears natural now, and my jawline looks vibrant, eliminating my previously dull look.
For those with short chins, moving the tip of your chin forward can make a substantial improvement! I highly recommend it.
I believe that undergoing surgery with a positive attitude can reduce stress, as living with insecurities can be a continuous source of stress.
