제목 I’m so happy with my new look after getting double jaw surgery! Why Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

<before surgery>

Hello,

I’ve got double jaw surgery and contouring of two areas (square jaw + front jaw) on January 15th. 🙂

Since middle school, I've heard repeatedly that orthodontic treatments couldn't fix my issues, which was quite frustrating. Honestly, when I was younger, I didn't think much about it, but as I entered high school and became an adult, I became more eager for surgery. I've always enjoyed embellishing myself, so I've always felt a bit lacking in facial features.

In my early to mid-twenties, the primary reason for surgery was cosmetic, but gradually I started feeling my jaw joints misaligning. I began experiencing jaw pain, difficulty sleeping due to the discomfort, and even noticed clicking sounds when I opened my mouth wide. As these functional issues worsened, I realized I needed to address them.

So, although I was scared of major surgery when I was younger and couldn't afford it, last year, I finally gathered the courage to seek consultations. After researching through various platforms like YouTube and cosmetic surgery apps, I ended up booking an appointment with WHY Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Although it was a bit challenging to manage appointments for pre-surgery tests and getting the wafer done as I was living in a rural area at that time, WHY's advantage was that the wait times weren't long, and there was only one surgeon, which.

Finally, as soon as the new year began, on January 15th, I underwent the surgery! 🫡

It's already been a month since I had my surgery, and I remember anxiously waiting for the two-week mark to pass. At that point, I was wondering when a month would finally come, and now it's already here!

Thankfully, I haven't experienced much swelling, so I was thinking by the second week that maybe I was recovering quite well. However, I can feel that the swelling has been gradually going down bit by bit. As they say, every surgery takes time!

Now, at the one-month mark, I'm getting tired of the bland meals I've been eating, even though it's just the same porridge every day. Still, I'm glad it's easier to eat now compared to before. I'm incorporating things like egg custard, tofu, finely chopped ramen, and ice cream into my diet. It feels like a feast compared to the soft foods I was limited to earlier, like Newcare and water-like porridge.

I felt that walking was essential after every surgery, but I noticed that the swelling from this jaw surgery seemed to improve more quickly compared to other surgeries I've had. I've been walking gently for 30-40 minutes at least four times a week, and starting from exactly four weeks post-op, I've been riding an indoor bike for 30 minutes each time at home. By evening, I can see that the swelling has significantly reduced.

I highly recommend walking!

To be honest, I've always been someone who looks in the mirror a lot, but after the surgery, I couldn't stop looking in the mirror constantly, and got used to my look every day. I started to wonder if I've changed a lot and if others notice too. When I met my family and friends during the Lunar New Year, many of them said that my image had become much cuter and gentler.

It feels rewarding. ♥

Before the surgery, I used to dread and dislike having my picture taken by others, but now I'm curious about how I look, so I don't refuse anymore!

After the surgery, the discomfort from the wafers and the swelling in my gums used to make my mouth feel uncomfortable after talking a lot. But now, those sensations have almost completely disappeared. Interestingly, I feel somewhat empty if I don't wear the wafers, but I still want to take them off...!
