제목 Double Jaw Surgery – 1-Year Review (Family Loved It Most!) Why Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

I was diagnosed with malocclusion as a child, but my mother was firmly against double jaw surgery, so I only had braces.

However, the braces simply pushed my upper teeth outward to force my bite to meet, so the fundamental bone issue was never resolved.

When I became an adult, I decided to pay for orthodontics again on my own. But as I reached the final stage, I realized that my main concern—protruding chin (class III malocclusion)—was still there.

In the end, the root problem could only be solved through double jaw surgery. After going through two rounds of orthodontics, I finally had double jaw surgery at WHY Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

I had several consultations, but Dr. Seokjae Lee at WHY gave me confidence right away. He seemed calm, charismatic, and highly skilled, so I booked my surgery the same day.

Since I work full-time and couldn’t take long leave, I only took a one-week break and returned to work on Day 8 after surgery.

<Before Surgery>

About two weeks before the surgery, I had a wafer made, CT scans, and a blood test at an internal medicine clinic.

The coordinator advised me via KakaoTalk to take iron supplements since low blood results could delay surgery, so I took them occasionally.

The night before surgery, I was very nervous. But I reminded myself that this was something I had always wanted, and just a few more days of patience would give me the results I hoped for.

Immediately After Surgery

My surgery was done using SSRO. After lying down on the operating table, the anesthesiologist said, “We’ll start the anesthesia now.” That’s the last thing I remember.

When I woke up, I was in the recovery room with a drain and catheter in place.

As many reviews said, because of the anesthesia gas, I wasn’t allowed to sleep or drink water until evening, even though my surgery had been at 10 a.m.

Since I had the surgery without a guardian, the nurses came to wake me up every hour or so.

The next morning, the nurse joked that I must have been very tired because I slept so deeply. Honestly, it did hurt—of course, it was surgery—but with painkillers, it was bearable, and I even snored.

Day 2

They removed the catheter and drain without much pain and told me to start walking little by little, so I walked every time I went to the restroom.

I used the hospital humidifier to help with breathing, and since I had slept so much the first day, I stayed awake more. I even watched YouTube and checked my phone.

The doctor came by frequently to check on me and reassured me that the surgery had gone well. He seemed cold at first but was actually very sweet post-op, which moved me a lot.

Since I came alone, the staff also cared for me a lot—helping with my bag, handing me my iPad, and just making sure I was comfortable.

Day 3 to 1 Week

I was discharged on Day 3 and picked up 10 days of medication from the pharmacy.

I hate pain, so I took my meds diligently, which helped a lot. My nose was very blocked, which was uncomfortable, but I wasn’t in unbearable pain.

Before surgery, I had eaten well and exercised to build up stamina, and I think that helped.

As expected, swelling peaked around Days 4–5. Since I had to return to work on Day 8, I was worried, but fortunately, swelling started to go down by Day 6, and bruises faded.

On Day 7, I returned to the clinic for swelling treatment, disinfection, and a check-up with Dr. Lee.

Week 2 (Days 8–14)

I went back to work wearing a mask and eating separately from coworkers. Surprisingly, no one suspected I had undergone double jaw surgery.

I was amazed at how normal I felt. I think it’s thanks to the doctor’s excellent surgical skills.

Since I didn’t need rigid fixation and only had a wafer, working at a desk job was manageable from Day 8. (Of course, if possible, more rest would be better.)

The swelling continued to go down.

Month 3

I used to hate taking photos, but after surgery, I began taking pictures confidently—at pretty places, with friends, even selfies.

I no longer fear the rear camera!

Month 6

It’s already been six months. Time flew by—I almost forgot I even had surgery.

Now I hear people say I look softer, more feminine, and kind.

Before surgery, people often said I looked intimidating, strong, or cold at first impression.

I eat comfortably, have no big issues, and above all, the person who once opposed surgery the most—my mom—is now the happiest with the results.

I only regret not doing it earlier, since I could’ve enjoyed more memories with greater confidence.

Year 1

]

<Before Surgery>

<After Surgery>

Hello! It’s now been one year since I had double jaw surgery + square jaw + chin contouring at WHY Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

The best part is that when I smile, there’s no asymmetry anymore, and my face line looks natural with the jaw corrected.

My teeth are aligned stably, and my overall impression looks cleaner and more balanced.

Most of the residual swelling has disappeared, and my face now looks much more natural. Comparing with old photos, I can clearly see that my cheeks used to be puffy and my jawline uneven. Now, my face looks slimmer and smoother.

At the orthodontic clinic, they’ve also said my bite is stabilizing, and I can feel it myself when I chew food evenly on both sides.

The feedback from others has been very positive. People who don’t know about my surgery often say I look prettier or slimmer but don’t realize I had surgery because the results look natural.

Currently, I live without any discomfort, and my overall satisfaction is very high.

The best part is being able to smile freely without worrying, unlike before.

The recovery process over the past year wasn’t always easy, but seeing the results now, I can confidently say it was the right decision.

I highly recommend double jaw surgery!
