제목 In the End, Double Jaw Surgery Was the Answer... Why Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

It's already been 12 months since my surgery! 😊 Now, all the sensations have come back, and I can go to the gym without any issues, eating whatever I want!

I'm still in the process of orthodontic treatment, so there are some discomforts, but I’ve adapted well and can chew most things without trouble, as long as it's not hard or chewy foods.

-Before the Surgery-

I’ve had jaw issues since I was in upper elementary school, when my jaw started protruding a little.
By middle school, I was really stressed out about showing my profile to others. I initially thought orthodontics might solve it, so I went for consultations. However, the feedback I got was that while my bite could be corrected, my jaw might still look more prominent, and to address the external appearance, I would need jaw surgery. ^^
Before the surgery, I was unsure if orthodontics alone would work, but after hearing from the doctor that orthodontics wouldn’t be enough to fix the appearance, especially with my underbite, I was recommended jaw surgery. I started looking for a new clinic, and on October 23rd last year, I underwent jaw surgery and two types of contouring (chin & square jaw) at WHY Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery!

At the time of the surgery, I read many reviews saying that time flies by, but I couldn’t understand it at first because there were so many discomforts, and the swelling and pain made it tough. Now, a year later, I can fully relate to those comments, and I totally understand! 😊

I can still see some subtle swelling gradually going down.

Since I’ve been going to the gym, I think it's been helping with the reduction of swelling!

Everyone around me has been giving me compliments, and I feel like my self-esteem has improved a lot. 😊

Honestly, even if I could go back to before the surgery, I would do it a hundred times over. I’m extremely satisfied with how everything turned out!

4 Months After Surgery
Now, I’m going to my orthodontic checkups without any problems.
There is still some lingering swelling and chin fat, so it feels a bit awkward, but it should gradually disappear, right?
I’m doing my best to reduce the swelling by going to the gym and sometimes applying pressure to my chin. It’s been working well so far! 😊
I’m still being careful since it’s not completely healed yet.
For sure, I’ve noticed that as I lose weight, the fat under my chin is gradually disappearing.
I’m hoping the remaining swelling will go away soon. As for eating, I can chew most things!
People who know me now often say that my face looks smaller and prettier!
Every time I hear this, the painful memories fade away, and I feel so happy.
Now that I think about it, I kind of wish I had done it sooner~~ I’m extremely satisfied!!

2 Months After Surgery

There’s still some swelling, but the major swelling has gone down, and I’m living my daily life without any major discomfort.

Everyone around me keeps saying my face looks smaller and prettier, and they say my image has changed so much.

Even though some small swelling is still present, I believe it will go down with time, so I’m trying to be patient.

It’s still a bit awkward to chew because of the braces, but I’m enduring it with the thought that I have to bear it to get prettier~

However, because I haven’t been doing mouth exercises properly, I can barely fit two fingers into my mouth...

2 Weeks After Surgery
 [Week 1 to Week 2]
The swelling is gradually going down, and I’m starting to live more normally. I remember thinking during the worst of the swelling, “Did I make a mistake? Why did I do this?” because it was so tough. But after just one week, I looked at my profile and thought, “This was definitely the right decision!”
Changing my face shape has made my eyes and nose look prettier too!
The swelling hasn’t completely gone down yet, but they say that after a month, the major swelling will disappear, so I’m trying to be patient and wait for that.
I couldn’t eat much at first, which lowered my immunity, and I broke out in hives all over my body.
I was worried and contacted the clinic, and they were very kind and attentive, providing me with solutions. I really appreciated it!
I took some medication from the pharmacy, and the itching went away quickly, and I started feeling better. 😊
When I went for my second checkup, I had the stitches removed from my mouth. I was more nervous about that than the jaw surgery itself, as many people said it would hurt. Since I didn’t have anesthesia and had to do it while awake, I was nervous, but the pain was bearable when I pressed my nails into my palm!
After the stitches were removed, I was so happy because I could eat a wider variety of foods!
The doctor said my face now looked just like my name, and it made me laugh. ^^
But because of the wafer, I couldn’t smile properly, so that was a bit disappointing...
I can’t wait to remove the wafer and start orthodontic treatment, and I’m looking forward to sharing my 2-month and 3-month updates!
