<Before surgery>

<After surgery>
From the front, my face always looked uneven, especially around the cheekbones, and the overall facial line wasn’t smooth.
From the side, I really disliked the shape of my jawline under the ears and my chin—it all just looked too angular.
My face just felt wide overall.
I had been browsing consultations for a while, and then about a week before surgery, I suddenly booked a consultation.
I ended up really liking the clinic, and after some tests, they helped adjust the schedule so I could have the surgery. 😭
I wanted a place where I could feel safe and confident, so rather than going to a plastic surgery clinic, I chose an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic — specifically, WHY Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
What I liked most was that they only perform one surgery per day, the anesthesiologist is always present, and most importantly, the surgery is broadcast via CCTV for the guardian to watch — which really gave me peace of mind.
Also, the coordinator was in constant 1:1 contact with me on KakaoTalk, checking on my condition, which helped me feel very safe despite this being a major surgery!
[Surgery Day – Oct 4]
My surgery was in the afternoon, so I fasted for about a day and went in with my mom.
Even the day before, it didn’t really feel real — but once I saw the doctor, it hit me. I just kept thinking, “I hope I wake up safely.” I was honestly scared 😢
After getting ready, I waited in the recovery room before moving to the operating room.
Again, having the guardian be able to watch via CCTV was such a relief. It made me feel that the hospital was very confident and safe.
Once I entered the OR, the anesthesiologist told me, “You’ll just fall asleep and it’ll all be done,” and I fell asleep right away.
When I woke up, the surgery was over, and I was back in the recovery room.
I had to stay awake to help the anesthesia gas wear off, but I was so drowsy—it was hard at first.
Throughout the evening and into the night, the nurse came by to check on me and change the cold compresses. I was so grateful.
[Day 2 Post-Op]
The next day, they removed the drainage tubes. It felt a bit weird, but I immediately felt better afterward.
After that, I had my face wrapped in compression bandages and was discharged.
Honestly, I originally didn’t plan on telling my parents, but I definitely think having a guardian is necessary.
You're too out of it to manage everything alone — it's tougher than you'd expect.
Since I had facial contouring (not double jaw surgery), I was discharged the day after surgery.
[Day 3 Post-Op]
The day after being discharged, I had a hard time because of phlegm and coughing.
I was told not to cough, so I had to really focus on breathing through it, which wasn’t easy.
Also, my mouth wouldn’t open, so I had to use a small sauce bottle from Daiso to drink water — it was a struggle just to stay hydrated.
I was constantly hungry, so I drank water, milk, and soy milk as often as I could.
Taking pills was also tough because you need to open your mouth to put them in, and I couldn’t open my mouth properly at first.
I also had to rinse with a prescription mouthwash since I couldn’t brush my teeth — honestly, not being able to brush was one of the hardest parts for me.
I had a strong urge to clean my teeth, especially since the surgical stitches in my mouth made my teeth feel rough. But since I had cheekbone surgery, I had to avoid opening my mouth too wide, so I just endured it.
[Day 4 Post-Op]
At first, I thought, “Oh, the swelling’s not so bad.” But by Day 3 and 4, the swelling really hit.
I could feel my face getting puffy, so I kept using cold packs and wore the compression band consistently.
I also took light walks to help reduce swelling.
Since I had to sleep sitting up, I even bought a floor chair and tried my best to sleep upright.
It was mostly light sleep — waking up, dozing off, repeating...
[Day 5 Post-Op]
The swelling continued, but the hunger was worse, so I ground up the porridge and ate it slowly.
I had no idea not being able to chew would be this tough 😭
I kept sipping soy milk too.
I also temporarily lost my voice for about a week due to irritation in my bronchial tubes from general anesthesia, but thankfully, it came back naturally over time.
Eventually, I started eating soft foods like cut-up noodles, steamed egg, and sponge cake dipped in milk.
After about a week, I had the stitches on my cheekbones removed and had the inside of my mouth cleaned.
I didn’t even feel anything when the cheekbone stitches came out.
Since there was still swelling, I was told to keep walking regularly.
About a week after that, I got the stitches inside my mouth removed too — it stung a little, but it was manageable!
[Back to Work – After 1 Week Off]
Since I’m a working professional, I took about a week off for the surgery.
But honestly, if you don’t want others to notice, you’ll probably need over two weeks off — everyone could still tell from the swelling 😂
I talk a lot at work, so I naturally used my mouth, and that helped me get used to speaking again faster than expected.
Around the 2-week mark, I felt a tingling sensation around my chin, which surprised me, but I was told it’s a natural sign of the nerves recovering.
It was actually quite uncomfortable at first, but by the 1-month mark, that sensation was completely gone. What a relief!
[1 Month Post-Op]
If you experience tingling like I did, don’t worry — it will pass with time.
Now that a month has passed, I can really see that my cheekbones have reduced, and I feel so much more confident.
The reason I decided to get this surgery was because I had a serious complex about my facial shape since childhood.
I always kept my hair down, and windy days were such a source of stress for me.
But now, I can walk confidently into the wind — and I love that.
There’s still some swelling since it’s only been a month, but I’m so excited to see how it’ll look once it’s all gone.

[After 3 Months]
Now at the 3-month mark, I’m actually eating so well that I’ve gained some of the weight back 😅
It’s hard to believe time passed this fast.
I truly feel like my life has changed for the better since the surgery.
Even taking pictures feels different now — I actually feel confident.
Honestly, the best decision I made in my life might be finding the courage to go through with this surgery. That’s how satisfied I am.
The cheekbones, which were my biggest concern, have been reduced, and I feel like I look much younger.
Every time I look in the mirror, I feel joy.
When my younger sibling saw me for the first time around the 1-month mark, they were shocked and said I looked like a completely different person — maybe 5 years younger! 😂
I didn’t tell any of my friends, but they kept asking if I lost weight or why I look younger.
I can’t wait to see how things will look at the 6-month mark!
Now that I can eat comfortably and all the swelling is gone, my daily life is back to normal — and I’m truly happy.
I’m also planning to get the pin removal surgery later, which will be the final step.
If you’re struggling with a complex like I was, I highly recommend getting the surgery at a safe and professional place like this one!
